Social Security Disability

Nashville Social Security Disability Lawyer

If you have applied and been denied for social security benefits, I can guide you through the appeals process with the Social Security Administration. I will personally represent you in your disability claim at the ODAR hearing in front of the Administrative Law Judge, who presides over your disability claim at the Social Security Administration.

Social Security Disability (SSDI)

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you are “insured,” meaning that you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes. Social Security Disability Insurance benefits are payable to blind or disabled workers, their children, their widow(er)s, and adults disabled since childhood. The amount of monthly benefits is based on the worker’s Social Security earnings records. If a worker received SSDI benefits for two (2) years, the worker will automatically get Medicare coverage.

Supplement Security Income (SSI)

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays benefits based on financial need, so you must be limited income and resources to qualify. Supplemental Security Income benefits are payable to individuals age 65 or older, adults who are disabled or blind, or children who are disabled or blind. The amount of monthly payment is up to the maximum federal rate, and Tennessee does not supplement the federal maximum.

Social Security Disability (SSDI) & Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

  • Both require a disability
  • Both have the same appeals process consisting of a Request for Reconsideration, review Administrative Law Judge (ALJ), Social Security Appeals Panel, and federal court review
  • Both require extensive proof of disability
